What is cartilage?

Cartilage is a type of connective tissue that provides structure and support to the other tissues. It surrounds the end of the bones to prevent them from grinding against each other.

Cartilage is composed of specialized cells that produce a large matrix composed of collagen and proteoglycans. This gives joints the protection and strength they need to perform without loss of flexibility. Unlike other connective tissues, joint cartilage does not contain blood vessels, which causes it to heal very slowly.

Joint cartilage is growing tissue and needs continuous regeneration to provide the protection and strength required by joints. Cartigel® targets this tissue and works to regenerate cartilage.
